Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR)

Geospatial technologies play a vital role in supporting many of DNR's program activities.  The use of geospatial tools and data has been well established within DNR for more than twenty years, and is increasingly being integrated into a variety of business area workflows and processes. DNR's central GIS Section supports shared GIS infrastructure, enterprise GIS web services, and enterprise data (including LiDAR/DOP acquisition and processing).  It also provides consulting and support to DNR business area related to GIS data, web services, and mapping applications.

Several hundred DNR staff in the central office and regional offices around the state currently use an array of desktop-, server-, and cloud-based software and tools. GIS professionals in DNR program areas support important geospatial activities within their divisions, such as: data development, management, sharing, and analyses; creation of custom maps; development and maintenance of program web services and mapping applications. Other related technology used in DNR include global positioning system (GPS) hardware/software and address geocoding services.
