DHS

Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS)
The use of geospatial analysis tools and demand for geospatial data in DHS has continually increased over the years throughout nearly all of our divisions. GIS functionality is used to map locations of providers and recipients, track disease outbreaks, manage case loads, and manage asset distribution networks. DHS has one full time staff person who supports the use of GIS throughout the agency, as well as 20 other desktop users scattered throughout agency programs. The Bureau of Information Technology Services, where our GIS staff person is employed, also manages a ‘GIS Resource Center’ where any program staff person in the agency, regardless of GIS knowledge, can use a modern suite of desktop GIS tools.

DHS is working very closely with our sister agencies to enhance the use of GIS technology and data via shared systems that leverage technology and resources. DHS firmly believes that a more collaborative approach to implemented GIS technology and services offers enormous cost and time savings to our internal and external customers.
